Caluromys derbianus is an arboreal and nocturnal opossum, considered rare and poorly documented in Mexico, particularly in the Yucatán Peninsula. The objective of this note is to update the knowledge of its distribution in Quintana Roo through recent records obtained in the K’u’Áayin Nature Reserve, evaluating its potential use as a functional habitat. Surveys were conducted between 2024 and 2025 in the K’u’ Áayin Nature Reserve. Photographic evidence and geographic coordinates of sightings were collected using the Geo Tracker app. Records were compared with historical data from GBIF, and a distribution map was created including both previous and new records to contextualize the findings. Seven records of C. derbianus were documented: six adults observed in the tree canopy and one juvenile found in critical condition on the ground. All sightings occurred within a small area of the reserve, suggesting a potential site for reproduction or stable residence for the species. These records confirm the current presence of C. derbianus in Felipe Carrillo Puerto and expand its known distribution in Quintana Roo. The observation of a juvenile indicates reproductive activity. These findings highlight the ecological value of K’u’ Áayin as a functional habitat and support its inclusion in regional conservation strategies. The K’u’ Áayin Reserve serves as a potential refuge for C. derbianus and other hard-to-detect arboreal species. We recommend implementing a systematic biological monitoring program to better understand its local ecology and guide conservation actions focused on protecting its habitat in the region.
